It is socially acceptable, even required that we do not believe the stories told in fairy tales, fiction books, or movies of our current era. But, if any of those stories portray a moral, functional, or emotional principle we agree with, then we may adopt and utilize it to better our own existence; encouraging others to do the same.
We would doubt the legitimacy of any current era non-fiction writing if the author made wild unprovable claims. We would correct our thinking and redirect our actions if any long held belief in science was found to be untrue. We should hold on to what is still believed to be correct while integrating our new found information. Why then must we be damned or forbidden from doing that with the ancient text of the past?
